Field dentist clamp down in Vietnam. Dr. (dentist, Captain) Earle Yeamans and assistant Sp5 Richard Ackley (wearing glasses, on left) treat an 1st Infantry Division infantryman "on the scene" at a 1st Infantry Division defensive perimeter. Infantrymen on guard in the background watch this new type of "exquisite oriental torture" as they wait their turn for checkups, fillings, drillings and extractions. An 1st Infantry Division soldier opens wide for his dental treatment on Di An base. Three times a month Capt. and Dr. Earle Yeamans, the Big Red One's travelling dentist, and his assistant Spec. 5 Richard Ackley, hoist their 600-pound portable dentist's office aboard a helicopter and head for the boonies. They stay in the area three or four days, examining every man in the unit and scheduling appointments.
